Cindy Gertz, Former Freddie Mac Executive, Appointed CFO & Senior VP for Finance & Administration at PBS

ALEXANDRIA, VA - February 14, 2000 - Cindy Gertz, a former executive at the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac), will join the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) February 22 as chief financial officer and senior vice president for finance and administration.

Ms. Gertz, who will oversee PBS's financial and administrative operations, will report to Beth Wolfe, chief administrative officer and executive vice president, station and strategic services. In her new position, Ms. Gertz will manage PBS's growing budget a projected $309 million in FY 2000 from $284 million in FY 1999 and provide financial oversight for PBS's member services, business ventures and investments. She also will be responsible for PBS's facilities planning and day-to-day administrative services. Ms. Gertz succeeds Ms. Wolfe, who was promoted to her current post in June 1999.

A 15-year veteran of Freddie Mac in McLean, VA, Ms. Gertz most recently was vice president of shareholder relations, serving as the primary liaison with the investment community. Prior to that, she was vice president, division controller, for the single family business line, a division with assets in excess of $600 billion. She has held various other positions in corporate planning and analysis within Freddie Mac. Before joining Freddie Mac, Ms. Gertz served in financial management posts at Texas Instruments in Houston, Texas.

"She will play a key role in strengthening our services to member stations and managing our increasingly complex financial and administrative affairs."

Ms. Gertz received a bachelor's degree (with distinction) in economics from the University of Colorado in Boulder and an M.B.A. (with distinction) from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
