ALEXANDRIA, Va., February 12, 2001 -- Stephan F. Knobloch, manager of the Public Broadcasting Service's Technology Certificate Program, has been promoted to senior director of PBS TeacherLine, an innovative Web-based professional development service that prepares educators, as well as educators-in-training, for teaching and learning in a digital environment. The announcement was made by Jinny Goldstein, PBS senior vice president, education.
In this newly created position, Mr. Knobloch oversees existing TeacherLine services and creates new models for technology-based professional development for preK-12 teachers of mathematics. His responsibilities also include enhancing the visibility of TeacherLine among educators, opinion leaders, the media and the public, increasing local public television stations' involvement with the service and securing the additional funding needed to ensure TeacherLine's growth. Mr. Knobloch, who assumed his new post on January 2, 2001, supervises a staff of 20 and reports to Ms. Goldstein.
Accessible online at PBS.org/teacherline/, PBS TeacherLine highlights a Virtual Mathematics Academy, online Technology and Mathematics Modules, and a Community Center with a new education topic each month with articles, an ongoing panel discussion and live chat events. TeacherLine is organized as a collection of learning modules correlated to national and state standards that allow educators to earn, at their own pace, a certificate in any one of four competency areas: Technology Skills and Knowledge; Professional Practices; Curriculum and Assessment; and Teaching and Learning.
"Stephan brings an important combination of skills to his new position," said Ms. Goldstein. "His years of experience in the ever-evolving fields of education and technology make him tremendously qualified to lead TeacherLine as we move into the 21st century."
In his previous role of manager of the PBS Technology Certificate Program, Mr. Knobloch designed, managed and implemented this national program that allows instructors to enhance their classroom skills through TeacherLine's Web-based resources. Prior to joining PBS, he was an education consultant for school systems across the country. He has also spent many years in the classroom as a music instructor and as a technology resource teacher. Mr. Knobloch holds a bachelor's degree from St. Norbert College and a master's degree from Arizona State University. He is currently enrolled in the University of Virginia's Educational Leadership program.
