PBS Scores Two Major Wins at Daytime Emmys Televised Ceremony

SESAME STREET Earns Ninth Consecutive Emmy For Outstanding Pre-School Children's Series; READING RAINBOW Wins for Outstanding Children's Series

PBS Remains #1 in Children's Categories, Garnering More Emmys for Kids Programming Than Any Other Broadcast or Cable Network



New York, NY - May 17, 2003 -- PBS won two more Emmys for its children's series at the 30th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony, broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall on Friday, May 16. The two wins, combined with the eight Emmys announced on May 10 at the Creative Craft Daytime Emmy Awards, bring PBS's total number of awards to 10, all of them for PBS KIDS series.

PBS's 2003 Emmy wins put it atop all broadcast and cable networks for children's programming.

In its 34th season, SESAME STREET won the Emmy for Outstanding Pre-School Series for the ninth consecutive year, winning it every year since the category was created. At the May 10 Creative Craft presentation, SESAME STREET collected five Emmys. The series now has a total of 86 Emmys.

READING RAINBOW was named Outstanding Children's Series for the seventh time. Now in its 19th season, READING RAINBOW has won a total of 19 Emmys.

The Emmy broadcast also featured a moving tribute to Fred Rogers, with characters from SESAME STREET and Emmy host Wayne Brady singing a medley of songs from MISTER ROGERS' NEIGHBORHOOD.
