PBS RESPONDS TO CONCERNS ABOUT REPRESENTATION IN THE WAR

Email share

ARLINGTON, VA, SEPTEMBER 13, 2007 -THE WAR explores the human experience of war by focusing on the testimonies of just a handful of individuals from four American towns, and honoring all veterans of the Second World War. This worldwide catastrophe touched the lives of every family on every street in every town in America. We are certain that this series will spark a national dialogue, and that millions of people throughout the country will be inspired to tell their stories.

After listening to the concerns of representatives of the Latino community, Ken Burns and Lynn Novick worked with award-winning filmmaker Hector Galon to feature specific stories of Latino and Native-American veterans. The producers have shown portions of these stories to audiences at screening events, including one at annual conference of the American GI Forum, a national organization for Latino veterans; the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive.
