New York, NY, July 18, 2002 - PBS received a total of 11 nominations this morning when The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominees for the 54th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards from the Academy's Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre in North Hollywood.
R.J. Cutler's much lauded observational documentary AMERICAN HIGH (presented by Twin Cities Public Television) and the hit series FRONTIER HOUSE (from Thirteen/WNET) were both recognized in the Outstanding Non-Fiction Program (Reality) Category. WGBH Boston's popular ANTIQUES ROADSHOW received a nomination for Outstanding Non-Fiction Series (Informational).
The Thirteen/WNET long-running series GREAT PERFORMANCES was honored with three nominations, including Outstanding Directing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Program, Outstanding Classical Music-Dance Program and Outstanding Sound Mixing for Non-Fiction Programming (Single or Multi-Camera) and their venerable LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER series garnered two nominations in the Outstanding Classical Music-Dance Program category.
Filmmaker Gregory Nava's critically acclaimed AMERICAN FAMILY (from KCET/Hollywood), the first Latino drama on broadcast television, received a nomination for Outstanding Cinematography for a Multi-Camera Series. KQED/San Francisco's foray into the Broadway musical, SWEENEY TODD IN CONCERT, was nominated for Outstanding Classical Music-Dance Program, giving PBS a clean sweep in that category.
The award ceremony will be telecast live on September 22 on NBC from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The following is a complete list of PBS nominees:
