Trusted Source Offers Webisodes, Tips and Advice for Parents and Families from Creator and Producer of Award-Winning Children’s Television

Arlington, VA/New Orleans, LA – April 15, 2011 – Today PBS Parents launches THE PARENT SHOW WITH ANGELA SANTOMERO at Mom 2.0, a national blogger’s conference in New Orleans.  Hosted by Ms. Santomero, the Co-Creator and Executive Producer of the top-rated PBS KIDS series SUPER WHY and one of the key visionaries behind the long-running, award-winning Blue’s Clues, THE PARENT SHOW is just that: a show for parents.

Offered online only, the show can be viewed and shared whenever a parent needs advice, ideas or a laugh. New episodes will air weekly, and in between, parents can chat with Angela through her blog on PBSPARENTS.org, and on Twitter @AngelaSanto.

THE PARENT SHOW’s mantra is that there is no way to be a perfect parent, but there are a million ways to be a good one. Through the series and blog, PBS Parents is striving for a fun, judgment-free community where parents share tips, advice and a sense of humor. THE PARENT SHOW is available on PBSPARENTS.org, one of the leading online destinations for parents and educators with over half a million visitors each month.

“As our first PBS Parents web-original series, THE PARENT SHOW furthers our mission to offer high quality content across platforms,” said Jason Seiken, Senior Vice President, Interactive, PBS.  “Through THE PARENT SHOW we are also breaking new ground in the parenting space – offering an innovative approach to parenting issues that is thought-provoking, irreverent, and highly interactive.”

“Today’s parents seek trusted resources to help them navigate the complex issues they face in raising 21st-century kids,” said Lesli Rotenberg, Senior Vice President, Children’s Media, PBS.  “THE PARENT SHOW has been developed in response to parents and mom bloggers interested in building a community, in partnership with PBS, where they can share questions and experiences, exchange ideas and learn from experts and from each other.”

Each week, THE PARENT SHOW will explore a topic that parents are dealing with today – such as school readiness, media habits or healthy eating – through a video interview, a follow-up video message, and a blog post.  Angela will interview noted experts with a wide range of backgrounds, from astrophysicists to chefs to puppeteers, who will share their unique and fresh ideas and tips for parents.  She will also go behind the scenes with content creators, producers, and personalities from PBS programs.  Each interview will be followed up with an additional video, in which Angela will delve more deeply into the weekly issue at hand.  Angela will also share her own personal experiences through a weekly blog post. On PBSPARENTS.org, moms and dads will be encouraged to join the conversation, suggest topics for future webisodes, ask questions, post comments, and interact with each other.

PBSPARENTS.org offers a deep catalogue of free resources and information from a variety of experts (including real parents), empowers parents to engage in their children’s development and offers parents educational resources tied to the PBS KIDS programs their kids love.  More than 21 million children watch PBS KIDS on TV, and PBSKIDS.org, the number one kids’ entertainment site for free video streaming, attracts more than 9.5 million unique visitors per month (Neilsen NTI; comScore Video Metrix, February 2011; Google Analytics).

THE PARENT SHOW can be found at PBSPARENTS.org/theparentshow and on PBS’ YouTube channel. Images, video and other press materials are available on PBS PressRoom.

THE PARENT SHOW was made possible, in part, through the generous support of Anne Ray Charitable Trust.
