ARLINGTON, VA; October 31, 2018 – PBS today announced that Sharon Philippart has been promoted to the new role of Vice President, Strategy & Engagement for Children’s Media and Education. Philippart will oversee the development of strategies across the Children’s Media and Education division, integrating and aligning resources to ensure the greatest impact on learning outcomes for children. She will focus on leading PBS KIDS and education initiatives into the future, harnessing the power of PBS’ high-quality content and trusted brand. In addition, she will spearhead the multiplatform marketing and communications, creative services and station relations units within Children’s Media and Education.

“Sharon is an industry leader who delivers results in support of children, families and educators, keeping pace with our dynamic media environment and an eye toward the future,” said Lesli Rotenberg, Chief Programming Executive and General Manager for Children’s Media and Education. “She is vital to advancing our goals of transforming learning outcomes and preparing children for success in school and in life.”

Driven by her passion to use the power of media to support learning, Philippart joined PBS in 2006 to lead PBS’ efforts for the national Ready To Learn Initiative, a U.S. Department of Education-funded program that supports the development of educational media for underserved young children and their families. In 2010, she was promoted to Senior Director, Marketing & Communications, tasked with leading the PBS KIDS marketing, communications, creative services, station relations, social media and partnerships teams. Among her successes, she led the redesign of the PBS KIDS brand and co-led the launch of the first national 24/7 PBS KIDS channel and live stream.

Prior to PBS, Philippart served as Vice President, Marketing & Corporate Communications for PBS and NPR member station KERA in Dallas, Texas. Philippart started her career at Maryland Public Television, where she led efforts in national and international promotion and communications. Philippart has won a number of awards, including honors from Promax BDA, Kidscreen, Cynopsis, the Tellys and more. A graduate of Baltimore’s Towson University, she holds a B.S. in Communications.
