Software Offers Local PBS Stations New Ways to Reach and Acquire Members
Alexandria, VA - March 12, 2002 - The Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) has entered into an agreement with GetActive Software to provide local PBS stations access to personalized outbound e-mail and e-membership services. This agreement will bolster local stations' efforts to increase their membership rosters by using state-of-the-art new media communications tools.
The GetActive platform will enable PBS to communicate with its 349 member stations more efficiently, and in turn, will allow local PBS stations to send targeted fundraising and program-related messages to select viewers of PBS programming.
Recipients of these HTML email messages will be able to click on "donate" buttons or forward the messages to others, and the system can track the success of each message. This capability will enable PBS to counsel its stations regarding which marketing and membership strategies work best, and will allow local PBS stations to improve their communications efforts with each successive campaign.
"The ability to send personalized communications efficiently to public television viewers and donors is an important part of building a rich membership experience," said Robert Altman, PBS senior vice president of development and corporate relations. "GetActive's powerful, flexible software and its understanding of the unique challenges of not-for-profit institutions made the company a natural choice when we sought a solution for our member stations"
"PBS is a great American institution, and we are thrilled about the opportunity to serve them," said Sheeraz Haji, president and CEO of GetActive Software. "We believe PBS and its member stations have a unique opportunity to use the Internet to leverage great content, strong relationships, and the PBS brand to strengthen relationships with members and viewers. We are excited to be part of this effort."
PBS and its station-led E-Membership Advisory Group decided early last year that PBS needed an online communications network. After an extensive selection process involving 16 vendors, GetActive Software emerged as the best fit for meeting the varied e-membership requirements of PBS' member stations. GetActive serves more than 70 nonprofit organizations, including AFL-CIO, American Lung Association, Independent Sector, and National Wildlife Federation.
PBS, headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, is a private, nonprofit media enterprise owned and operated by the nation's 349 public television stations.
