The Television Critics Association announced its 2012 TCA Awards winners on Saturday, July 28, in Beverly Hills. PBS’ MASTERPIECE CLASSIC “Downton Abbey” was honored in the category of Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries and Specials.

Members of the TCA, a media organization of more than 200 professional TV critics and journalists from the United States and Canada, nominated “Downton Abbey” in the same category in 2011 for season 1 of the breakout series.

PBS congratulates “Downton Abbey” for receiving this honor, as well as PBS TCA Award nominees FRONTLINE, MASTERPIECE MYSTERY! “Sherlock” and SESAME STREET.

“Downton Abbey” returns with all-new episodes airing Sunday nights beginning January 6, 2013. In season three, the Great War is over and a long-awaited engagement is on, but all is not tranquil at Downton Abbey as wrenching social changes, romantic intrigues and personal crises grip the majestic English country. Academy Award®-winner Shirley MacLaine joins the all-star cast.
