JOYCE HERRING NAMED PBS SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, STATION SERVICES

ARLINGTON, VA, May 21, 2007 - Following a nationwide search, public broadcasting veteran Joyce Herring, General Manager at PBS member station KACV-TV/FM in Amarillo, Texas and a distinguished member of the PBS Board of Directors, has been named PBS Senior Vice President, Station Services. In her new role, she will be a key member of the PBS Core Management Team and report directly to Wayne Godwin, Chief Operating Officer. Ms. Herring will begin her tenure in July.

"Given her record of achievement in local station operations, community engagement and strategic planning, as well as her experience at the national level, Joyce is the ideal person to lead this key department at this crucial time."

The principle responsibility of Ms. Herring is to represent the perspective of PBS member stations in the ongoing management and strategic direction of PBS. She will work closely with PBS' President, COO and other members of the management team to ensure that PBS works in partnership with its member stations to increase the stations' value and connection to their communities and maximize the value of, and benefits from, PBS' programs, products and services. Her portfolio will also include managing the Development, Station Services and Conference Services departments and acting as a liaison with the PBS Board's Station Services Committee on the station policies and procedures that govern the relationship between PBS and its member stations. Ms. Herring will also be a primary representative for PBS with other national public television organizations.

In addition to her overall management duties as the General Manager of KACV ? a position she has held since 1988 ? Ms. Herring oversaw the station's legal proceeding with the Federal Communications Commission over their analog license and worked extensively to establish their financial campaign and operational design. She also developed and implemented strategies for their digital conversion and capital campaign. Among her other major accomplishments is the coordination of $20 million in-state funding for digital conversion activities of 14 stations in Texas.

Ms. Herring has worked on numerous national committees and panels in addition to her service on the PBS Board, including the Corporation for Public Broadcasting's (CPB) Small Station Advisory Panel, Future Fund Panel, Station Efficiencies Panel and the Digital Advisory Panel.

In addition, Ms. Herring helped with the Grant Review Panel for the Department of Commerce's Telecommunications Facilities Program and spent two terms as the President of the Texas Public Broadcasting Association.

She also has experience in teaching at the collegiate level, serving as Department Chairman at Amarillo College, as well as instructor at the University of Texas, Austin, from which she received both her Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and a Master of Arts. Ms. Herring has done additional graduate work at Texas Tech University and West Texas State University.
