JOHN MCCOSKEY APPOINTED PBS’ FIRST CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER

ARLINGTON, VA, March 8, 2007 - Paula Kerger, PBS President and CEO today announced that following a nation-wide search, John McCoskey has been named PBS' first Chief Technology Officer. Mr. McCoskey will report directly to Wayne Godwin, PBS' Chief Operating Officer and will be a member of Ms. Kerger's core management team. His tenure will begin on April 2, 2007.

"As the digital revolution comes of age, it is critical that PBS' Technology and Operations team is helmed by a leader with the broad range of skills necessary to work with our member stations in developing and maintaining state-of-the-art systems designed to best serve the American public," said Ms. Kerger. "John is an individual who brings people and technology together in the common interest of service, and we are pleased that he is joining us at such an important time."

In his new position, Mr. McCoskey will be responsible for providing leadership, management and technical guidance for broadcast technology and IT systems for PBS, overseeing a team of 130 employees. Key projects will include the Next Generation Interconnection System (NGIS), which is the infrastructure of public television; broadcast distribution systems development; implementation of a new rights management system; as well as corporate business continuity and disaster recovery.

Mr. McCoskey joins PBS from Comcast where he has served as Vice President, Product Development for Comcast Media Center since 2004. He is an inventor on 40 issued/published utility patents related to satellite communications, media distribution, digital media systems, targeted advertising, digital rights management, Internet video, electronic books and media search and delivery. Other professional experience includes serving as the Chief Technology Officer of Brief Original Broadcasts (BOB); President of Media Technologies; Senior Vice President, Operations, Your Choice TV; Senior Vice President, Technology and CTO at Discovery Communications; as well as positions at GTE Spacenet and Communications Satellite Corporation.

A graduate of Johns Hopkins University, Mr. McCoskey holds two M.S. degrees from that institution, one in Management and one in Computer Science. He also earned a Bachelor of Science from Bucknell University in Electrical Engineering. He is an active member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), the Society of Cable Television Engineers (SCTE), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE), and the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing (CTAM).
