On Jan. 21, the Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced the winners of the 23rd Annual Producers Guild Awards during a ceremony in Los Angeles. All three nominated PBS programs won the award in their respective category. PBS congratulates MASTERPIECE, AMERICAN MASTERS and SESAME STREET for being honored by the Producers Guild.
Winner of the David L. Wolper Producer of the Year Award in Long-Form Television is MASTERPIECE's "Downton Abbey." Producers behind the critically acclaimed program are Julian Fellowes, Nigel Marchant and Gareth Neame. Currently in its second season, "Downton Abbey" tells the story of aristocrats and servants during the tumultuous World War I era.
Susan Lacy and Julie Sacks were named Outstanding Producer of Non-Fiction Television for their work on AMERICAN MASTERS. The series pioneered the television biography genre and continues to offer insightful profiles of important figures in America's artistic and cultural life.
SESAME STREET won the Children's Programs award, one of four new categories introduced by the Producers Guild this year. Currently in its 42nd season on PBS, SESAME STREET encourages school readiness, especially in the disciplines of science and math.
